It's not too late to enter the Builth Wells Charity Aquathlon on Sunday, August 11.

That the closing date for entries isn't until August 4, but organisers have urged those interested to hurry as only 99 people can take part.

It costs just £10 to take part and every penny will go to Cancer Research UK, due to the local corporate support received.

Cllr Gwyn Davies, Mayor of Builth Wells, is very much in support and has made a donation from his mayoral allowance.

Cllr Davies said: "I think it's a fabulous event and I encourage as many people as possible to take part to raise money for such an amazing cause."

The event comprises a 400m (16 length) pool swim, followed by a 3km run around The Groe.

You'll need to be at least 18 years old on or before December 31 2024 to take part.

Helen Tuite, co-organiser of the event said: "We are trying to encourage those people who haven't taken part in an event of this kind before to have a go, that's why we've kept the distances relatively short.  You can do any stroke in the swim and can walk the 3k, if you're not able to run.  Plus, if participants want to raise sponsorship as well, that would be great, as that means even more money will go to Cancer Research UK.

“We're hoping that if it's a success, we could make it an annual event, and incorporate younger participants next year.  So even if you can't take part yourself, you can help by telling your friends or sharing on Facebook."

It will be a timed event and all entrants will receive a medal. There will be awards for winners of the different age categories. There will also be refreshments available.

Closing date for entries is August 4 or when the number of entrants reaches 99.
