A family from Glasbury has dedicated the past 25 years to raising vital funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Mother and daughter, Marian and Bronwyn Lally, have been organising their hugely successful coffee mornings for Macmillan since the early 1990s and have reached a huge milestone in 2024 by raising £53,320.44.
Supporters travel from near and far to attend their coffee mornings which take place in September each year; not only to sample their amazing cakes, but also the various other attractions including plant and book sales!
Bronwyn Lally, who is Head of Communications at Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority, said: “My dad was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 1996 when I was just five years old. Through the support of my mum, my dad went on to live for a further 20 years and during this time, Macmillan were a great source of support for all the family, in particular a local Macmillan Fundraising Support Group called Busy Bees. They were always at the end of the phone and even arranged a holiday to Disneyland for children of families affected by cancer.
“Whilst it’s lots of hard work organising the coffee morning, we are fortunate to have such fantastic support from our community for this cause that is so close to the hearts of so many.”
Nicola Newhams, Fundraising Manager at Macmillan, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Marian and Bronwyn for their amazing support; they have dedicated 25 years to help support people living with cancer.
“More than three million people in the UK are living with the devastating impact of a cancer diagnosis and it is down to the generosity of spirit and tenacity of our amazing fundraisers like Marian and Bronwyn that Macmillan can be here to do whatever it takes to support people living with cancer - we simply can’t thank them enough.”
