SIX local schools participated in the Llandrindod Wells Children’s Eisteddfod.

The event was staged in Holy Trinity Church in the town. Children from nursery age to Year 6 came together to sing, recite and play musical instruments and were judged by Annwen Williams from Neath who due to the adverse weather conditions had to drive through rain and floods from her home to judge the musical entries.

The literacy adjudicator was unable to get through the floods and her place was filled at the last minute by Gwawr Tuffnell and Mai Ellis. The Eisteddfod committee expressed their thanks for their help. The event was opened by Cllr Jon Williams, the mayor of Llandrindod Wells, who is also chairman of the Eisteddfod committee. Cllr Williams introduced the adjudicators and Revd Andrew Tweed was the MC for the day.

Prior to the ‘Eisteddfod day’ there had been ‘off-stage’ competitions in artwork, handwriting and story writing. The winning pieces of work were on display in the St. Francis Centre in Holy Trinity.

Ben Williams compiled a collection of the artwork and this was on a continuous Power Point link. The judges for the pre-Eisteddfod competitions were adjudicated by Alan Quincy (Handwriting), Nelda Foster (Story writing) and Christine Haslock (Art).
