Brecon Rotary has been working with three local primary schools on an exciting new gardening project.

Ysgol y Bannau, Llanfaes Primary and Priory Church in Wales have collaborated with Brecon Rotary on “Let the Kids Grow”.

The project was a gardening competition, with each school being supplied with a wooden planter, a ton of topsoil and four sets of seeds.

This was thanks to Robert Price Builders’ Merchants, Brecon.

Each school was then challenged with growing the seeds in the raised bed and completing a growing log, including photos of their progress.

Judging for the competition took place earlier this week.

Brecon Rotary is pleased to announce that Llanfaes Primary School were the deserving winners of the “Golden Trowel” trophy and the other schools have been presented with a certificate of participation.

Anne Ingham, who coordinated the competition on behalf of Rotary, said: “The children obviously loved being involved, in all the schools, and must have learnt a great deal about growing plants and the importance of bees and they all want to take part again next year.”

Brecon Rotary meets each Monday at 6:30pm at the Wellington Hotel, Brecon.
