Llangattock Green Valleys (LGV) has successfully completed its community engagement phase on a number of renewable energy projects..
The community interest company is now moving forward into a feasibility study of sites for constructing the medium to large-scale installations, managed by a Smart Local Energy System (SLES) - not only providing energy but an income into the Crickhowell and Five Councils region.
Using the opinions and feedback provided by those living in the area, LGV has concluded there is sufficient community support to move forward, and is now reporting back on their findings, in collaboration with a Community Oversight Group, with regards to Solar, Wind, Hydro, Biomass and Energy Storage Facility opportunities.
This information will be announced to the public at an event in Crickhowell in September, alongside the news that the group is now working cooperatively with the National Grid, the Welsh Government Energy Service and the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park to bring the project to fruition. This follows initial concerns from the public that the project may be suspended by these agencies.
Also attending the event is Our Food 1200 and the Community Transport Project, in what will be a show of both the achievements, strength and spirit of the broader community, and of a region who strive for independence across energy, food and transport.
The event will take place at The Clarence Hall in Crickhowell (NP8 1BN) on Saturday, September 14. It will take place from 1:30pm to 4pm and is open to all members of the public, interested parties and press.
Llangattock Green Valleys (LGV) was formally incorporated in 2010 with the key aim of making Llangattock carbon negative.
