On Saturday, September 2, the body of 27 year-old, Mohananeethan Muruganantharajah, was discovered at the Sgwd y Pannwr waterfall in Ystradfellte.
The incident took place on Friday evening with emergency services being called to the waterfall, after the gentleman tried to rescue two children from a river.
Central Beacons Rescue Team, Fire and Rescue teams, Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust, HART, Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer service - EMRT Wales, Maritime and Coastguard Agency SAR Helicopter from St Athan, and Western Beacons Mountain Rescue Team were all called to the scene.
The efforts to locate the gentleman were suspended on Friday evening when darkness fell.
Wardens from Bannau Brycheiniog national park returned on Saturday morning with Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team, and specialist divers from South & Mid Wales Cave Rescue Team Cave Diving Group.
The divers recovered the gentleman's body from within the waterfall.
A spokesperson from Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team said: "We extend our deepest sympathies to members of the family, some of whom witnessed the tragedy as it unfolded and those who joined us on the Saturday morning.
"We also appreciate the understanding of those members of the public and outdoor activities groups who respected the requests to avoid the immediate area while rescue activities were ongoing."
