The man who died at a waterfall in Pontneddfechan has been named as Hemanta Kumar Rai.
The 28-year-old had been with friends at the waterfalls, also known as Pontneathvaughan, at lunchtime on Monday, August 16, when he got into difficulty in the water.
Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, Mr Rai sadly died at the scene.
Police have informed Mr Rai’s next of kin as well as the coroner.
The loved ones of Mr Rai, who is from Farnborough in Hampshire, England, have not commented on his death.
A Dyfed-Powys Police spokeswoman said: “Officers attended, along with colleagues from South Wales Police, the fire and rescue service, mountain rescue, and the ambulance service.
“However, despite the efforts of all involved, Mr Rai died at the scene.
“Next of kin and HM Coroner have been informed. It’s vital to keep yourself and your family and loved ones safe in and near water.”
Dyfed-Powys Police is investigating the incident at the waterfalls.
