The amateur boxer accused of the murder of serving soldier Matthew Boyd in Brecon at the weekend has been remanded in custody by a judge at Cardiff Crown Court.
Jake Thomas Vallely, 23,spoke only to confirm his name at the hearing before Judge Eleri Rees and will appear again on June 27.
Vallely, of Penybryn, Brecon wore a black top at the short hearing on Friday morning.
A second male, 22-year-old Aaeron Rhys Evans, of Cradoc Close, also in Brecon, denies actual bodily harm and was remanded until the same date.
Friends and family of both defendants were in court.
Prosecutor Jim Smith told the court: "The charges relate to an incident in the early hours of Sunday, May 8 that resulted in the death of Matthew Boyd, a soldier based at the Sennybridge camp".
He said both men were arrested on Sunday and charged on Wednesday.
A trial is expected to take place on November 7.
