AN amateur boxer has appeared before magistrates in Brecon charged with the murder of Private Matthew Boyd.

Jake Thomas Vallely, 23, is a member of Brecon Boxing Club.

Wearing a t-shirt and jeans he spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth and entered no plea to the charge of murdering Pte Boyd.

Pte Boyd was found unconscious in Lion Street at around 1am on Sunday, May 8. He died at hospital.

Prosecutor Kevin Challinor said Pte Boyd suffered "serious and fatal injuries".

A second male, 22-year-old Aaeron Rhys Evans also appeared before the court originally charged with affray.

This was amended at court to actual bodily harm and he entered a not guilty plea.

Both men were remanded in custody and will appear before Cardiff Crown Court tomorrow.
