A leading housebuilder has donated £1,000 to help the fundraising efforts of a man climbing Pen y Fan not once but 10 times in just 24 hours.
Tom Edwards from Mountain Ash is undertaking the ‘10YFan’ challenge to raise funds for Holibobs Children’s Cancer Charity.
The charity is dedicated to helping children diagnosed with cancer or leukaemia spend precious time together as a family through the provision of short breaks and holidays.
Persimmon East Wales has donated £1,000 to Tom’s fundraising efforts through the company’s Community Champions initiative, which sees up to £750,000 a year given to good local causes and organisations across Britain.
Receiving the £1,000 donation, Tom, said: “I am so grateful to Persimmon Homes East Wales for their generous donation.
“It not only means a lot to me but will also make a huge difference to the lives of children diagnosed with cancer and their families.
“It will allow them to enjoy quality time together and create memories to treasure.
“For me personally, this generous donation will also help spur me on over the next few months of intense training.”
Tom has already begin running and hiking as part of his training regime in preparation for the challenge which takes place in May.
He hopes to be accompanied on a few of the ascents by his dog Tom in a challenge which will see him climb South Wales highest mountain, which stands at 2,907ft.
Lee Gillen, Chair of Trustees for Holibobs Children’s Cancer Charity, said: “On behalf of Holibobs I would like to extend my sincerest thank you to Persimmon Homes East Wales for this generous donation.
“Holibobs relies completely on fundraising and this money will help us to help families going through a very difficult time in their lives.
“Tom’s incredible fundraising effort along with this very kind donation from Persimmon will allow us to continue to help these families.”
Richard Summers, Commercial Director at Persimmon East Wales, said: “The Persimmon Homes East Wales business is thrilled to be able to support Holibobs Children’s Cancer Charity through our donation of £1,000.
“Our Community Champions initiative is all about supporting people and communities where we build new homes and this particular charity helps families within our communities at a time when they need help the most.
“We wish Tom the very best of luck in completing this challenge and are proud to be able to support him in his fundraising efforts for such a deserving cause.”
