Mid Wales Dance Academy, based at Theatr Brycheiniog, has been teaching boys and girls to dance for nearly 30 years.
Every week around 250 children attend classes in ballet, tap and street dance, all of them will soon take to the stage in MWDA’s annual showcase. There will be three performances over the weekend of Saturday, July 6 and Sunday, July 7 and this year the show features the senior ballet students in “Peter and the Wolf”, the junior ballet classes in “Thumbelina” and a selection of energetic tap and street dance numbers, choreographed by a dedicated team of teachers.
Over the last two decades, 25 of the Academy’s students have gained places on full-time training courses in a variety of prestigious performing arts schools. Many of these former MWDA pupils are now working professional dancers. Some of these professionals then return to Brecon each Christmas to perform with Brecon Festival Ballet in its annual Nutcracker season.
This year, MWDA is celebrating the success of two of its current students, Millie Smith and Olivia Ellis, in gaining places in full-time training academies.
Millie will be studying Musical Theatre at the Emil Dale Academy and Olivia will be studying for a Professional Dance Diploma at Midlands Academy of Dance and Drama. Both of them hope to become professional performers following their full-time training, but they know a lot of hard work lies ahead in order to break into the industry.
You can see Millie and Olivia in action in the forthcoming performances at Theatr Brycheiniog, performing in tap dance and street dance numbers.
Millie also performs the role of the Cat in Peter and the Wolf, while Olivia performs the role of the Bird in the same ballet.
MWDA is proud to present its annual showcase of talented young dancers and you can get your tickets from the Theatr Brycheiniog box office on 01874 611622 or by visiting the website: www.brycheiniog.co.uk/en
