Mid Wales Opera (MWO) has secured essential funding from two prominent charities to help sustain its work across rural Wales and support the development of young opera talent.

The Colwinston Charitable Trust and the Laidlaw Opera Trust have both made significant contributions to the company. The Colwinston Trust’s ongoing support has been pivotal in MWO’s efforts to engage new audiences and nurture emerging talent, while the Laidlaw Opera Trust’s funding recognizes MWO’s contribution to the cultural scene across the UK and Ireland.

Gareth Williams, Chair of the Board at MWO said: “We are immensely grateful to Colwinston Charitable Trust for their continued faith in Mid Wales Opera and being so supportive in the work we do to engage audiences and nurture talent. Their support enables us to bring opera to diverse audiences and engage with young performers in new and creative ways.”

Despite the new funding, MWO still faces the challenge of raising an additional £25,000 each year to secure its future. The company is calling on both individuals and businesses to help ensure the continued success of live opera across Wales.

“We’ve had enormous support from our friends and friends of opera more generally, but we will continue to need individual donations to help keep the music alive,” said Mr Williams.

“Whether it’s £5 or £5,000 you can donate online and if you are a taxpayer in the UK, you can Gift Aid your donation, increasing its value by 25 per cent at no additional cost to you!”

MWO is also appealing to businesses to get involved through sponsorship, with opportunities for companies to raise their profile across Wales by supporting the arts.
