Morrisons Brecon’s community champion Laurie Richards has handed over a £4,000 donation from the Morrisons Foundation to Brecon and District Mind.

The charity, which provides a range of services to support the recovery of people with mental health conditions, will use the donation to deliver art and music therapy sessions for service users.

Val Walker, service manager of Brecon and District Mind, said “The support from the Morrisons Foundation will enable us to provide much needed services for people experiencing a range of mental health conditions, supporting their recovery and journey back to health.”

The Morrisons Foundation was set up in February last year to provide grants to both local and national charities that improve people’s lives.

David Scott, trustee of the Morrisons Foundation, said: "We are delighted to have awarded this grant to Brecon and District Mind. They provide a great service and I’m sure that the weekly sessions will ensure they can continue to support their service users in the best possible way.”

Brecon and District Mind is a well-established community resource and well-being centre for people experiencing mental health issues or mental/emotional distress. It is very much a part of the local community, both in Brecon and the outlying areas of Hay, Talgarth, Crickhowell and Sennybridge, where they operate open access centres on a weekly, or in the case of Sennybridge, monthly sessions. The charity aims to provide advice and information on a whole range of mental health issues and illnesses such as anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder and bi-polar among others, as well as providing support. Anyone is welcome to access Ty Croeso - the Mind centre which is open from Tuesday to Sunday 12.30-4.30pm.
