The Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team were called out to Neuadd Ridge on Valentine’s Day, after two walkers were lost.
At teatime, the team were called to assist two walkers who strayed off the path and found themselves in low clouds, fading light and poor visibility when descending from the summit of Pen-Y-Fan.
The team used PhoneFind and SARLOC technology to establish the location on the ridge above the Neuadd Valley.
Throughout the search, the team leader maintained phone contact, helping to provide reassurance for the walkers. The weather conditions were cold and wet, and the walkers were said to be in the early stages of hypothermia but were uninjured.
They were escorted from the mountain to safety in the team’s control vehicle, where they sought warmth and were given hot drinks and snacks. They were returned to their car and by 8 pm both parties were heading back home.
