New operating hours and opening days for household waste and recycling centres have been announced by Powys council.
Opening days at the county’s five centres were slashed in April as part of cost cutting drive by the local authority.
But the reduced opening days prompted a public backlash and the new Independent/Conservative coalition that took over the council following May’s local government elections promised to act.
The council cabinet last month agreed to increase the opening days at the centres to five days a week, including weekends.
They also agreed to introduce a permit scheme for residents to use commercial-type vehicles and trailers for their own household waste after furious residents found they were being turned away if they brought they brought items to the sites in a van.
The new opening days will come into effect from Friday, September 1. The current hours at the JPR site Llandegley will remain in place until the site closes at the end of September.
