A new mosaic has been unveiled outside the main entrance of Newbridge-on-Wye Church in Wales School.

The mosaic brought together pupils in a project funded by the Diocesan Funding Committee, on behalf of the Diocese of Swansea and Brecon.

The meaningful design engaged all learners in creating a visual representation of school’s Christian values.

Children in all classes worked with glasswork artist, Jody McPartlin of Stonefield Glass, to design and create the mosaic.

The project also engaged the support of the village vicar, Rvd Lance Sharpe.

As a result of the project, the school recently hosted a well-being open evening, where the Diocesan Director of Education, John Meredith, joined the event for the official unveiling of the mosaic, along with artist, Jody.

The after-school event featured singing, toasting marshmallows and drinking hot chocolate in the school's woodland area, as well as badge making, crispy rice hedgehogs, and refreshments, along with opportunities for visitors to learn about the school's approach to health and well-being as a key area of learning and experience.

Headteacher, Miss Samantha Williams welcomed current and prospective parents, as well as members of the wider community, to experience the school environment firsthand.

"We are really excited to welcome the community into our school to show what we can achieve together - we also encourage visits from families," she said.

“Those wishing to arrange a meeting with me and a tour of the school were asked to contact the school office on 01597 860273.”

The event provided an opportunity for everyone to come together, meet staff, and explore the school’s values in action.

The evening was a celebration of the community-driven project, bringing together families to enjoy the atmosphere and learn more about the school's health and well-being initiatives.

The school would like to thank everyone who attended and contributed to making the evening such a success.

The school also extends its thanks to the diocese for their grant funding, Jody McPartlin and her husband, Steve who supported the project through the creation of the frame that supports the mosaic, and also to John Meredith and Rvd Lance Sharpe for their support.
