ABOUT 600 members of the public flocked to Brecon police station last Saturday (July 7) for an exciting open day.

Visitors, mainly families with children, piled into the police station grounds for the chance to have a guided tour of a custody suite and to see inside the police cells.

They were also able to inspect the mobile police station, a riot van, vintage and modern police cars and a police tractor.

Police on horseback and armed officers were also present to give visitors demonstrations of their work. While youngsters had great fun having their fingerprints taken and practising hitting a plastic mannequin with a baton.

Other emergency services – the fire service, ambulance crews and Brecon Mountain Rescue team – were also in attendance.

PS 960 Adele Pitt, who helped organise the open day, said: “I am very grateful to all the partner agencies who joined our police teams in showcasing the work we do together to keep our communities safe.

“A big thank you to all the visitors who attended and took part in the activities on offer. We look forward to doing it again at Newtown Police Station on Thursday, August 2, so please come and join us!”
