A Brecon woman has lost more than three and a half stone over the past year after setting herself the goal last Christmas.

Pam Webb joined Jo Thomas’s Slimming World group in Brecon shortly before Christmas 2023, with the aim of losing weight and regaining her confidence.

After returning from a holiday, Pam’s confidence was low, so she decided to join her local group in Brecon to put her plans into action and get her spark back.

“I used to love walking and gardening - but I struggled to spend any time doing anything,” she explained.

“Five minutes weeding would take me half an hour to recover. Bending and standing were also issues - causing my health to suffer even more.”

Since Pam joined Jo’s group, she’s never looked back.

“I walked into the group not knowing anyone but was soon made welcome by Jo and the other group members,” she said.

“I now have a whole new group of friends who’ve inspired me to succeed.”

During the 12 weeks before Christmas, Slimming World members are given a tag for them to write down their wishes for themselves - as well as what they’d like to achieve in the coming weeks and into the new year.

Pam lost a stone before Christmas that year and kept going to achieve her dream weight.

In November this year, having lost more than three and half stone, Pam reached her target weight.

Pam was also voted Woman of the Year 2024 in the group.

“Pam proves that you can still socialise, holiday and celebrate birthdays - and reach your target weight,” said Jo.

“She goes into 2025 a slimmer, healthier and more confident lady.”

Jo’s Slimming World groups run at St David’s church hall in Llanfaes on Thursdays at 7:30am, 9am and 10:30am.

No booking is required and everyone is welcome.

Jo is set to open up a Sennybridge group in the new year, which will run on Mondays at 7pm at Maescar Community Hall, Station Yard - more details to come.
