A TEENAGER from Llandrindod Wells has organised a concert in her home town as part of fundraising efforts to pay for a trip to Patagonia.
Tegwen Bruce-Deans, a sixth form student at Builth Wells High School, will travel to the province in Argentina this October as part of a trip designed to strengthen the cultural links between Wales and the Welsh-speaking parts of the South American country.
The concert, which is being held at the Hotel Commodore this Sunday (May 6), is intended to be a taster ahead of the Urdd National Eisteddfod, which is being staged at the Royal Welsh Showground in Llanelwedd at the end of May. Tegwen, who is studying four A-levels including Welsh first language, has been an enthusiastic member of the Urdd since her primary school days in the Welsh stream at Ysgol Trefonnen. She is also the vice-chair of the youth committee of the Urdd National Eisteddfod.
The acts taking part in the concert will mostly be young people who have qualified for the Eisteddfod. Tegwen is hoping that in addition to entertaining the people who choose to go along it will also be a great opportunity for performers who have qualified for the Eisteddfod to hone their performances before a live audience.
Among those lined up to perform are several part-time students of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. The spoken word will also feature in the concert in the form of recitations and drama presentations.
Entry to the concert, which starts at 3pm, is £4 for adults and £2 for schoolchildren. Local businesses have also donated prizes for a raffle and refreshments will be available from the hotel bar.
