Plans have been put forward to build four houses in a Herefordshire village on the Welsh border.
Andrew and Thomas Lloyd are seeking outline planning permission (application 242487) to build the four off Newport Road to the north of Cusop, across the border from Hay-on-Wye.
The four would be accessed from the road, the B4350 at a point further north, with existing access to the farm buildings to be stopped up.
The current farm buildings are “an impediment to highway safety and an unattractive assemblage in the landscape”, the pair’s application says.
A small copse of trees would be planted between the main road, the access road and the houses.
Details of the houses themselves would follow in a later application, but are each expected to be detached and of two storeys and four bedrooms.
Following pre-application advice from Herefordshire Council, a bat survey was conducted at the existing barn.
This “confirms a bat presence, albeit in small numbers and of a common species”, the application says, adding that biodiversity enhancement “would be built into the scheme”.
Comments on the outline application can be made until December 23.
The area has seen ongoing disputes between residents and operators of the HowTheLightsGetsIn festival, which takes place between the road and river Wye in May, over noise and anti-social behaviour concerns.
