Powys County Council have confirmed that waste and recycling collections will move by a day during the week of Christmas.
Normal collection days:
Monday 26 December (bank holiday)
Tuesday 27 December (bank holiday)
Wednesday 28 December
Thursday 29 December
Friday 30 December
Revised collection days:
Tuesday 27 December
Wednesday 28 December
Thursday 29 December
Friday 30 December
Saturday 31 December
This revised plan will allow the crews to enjoy Christmas and Boxing Day with their families before returning back to work on Tuesday 27 December. The crews will continue waste collection on Saturday 31 December to make up for the missed collection day on Monday 26 December.
On New Year week, recycling and waste collections will continue as normal, starting on Monday 2 January.
On Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year's Day, all Household Waste Recycling Centres will be closed, but will be open as normal on other days over the festive period.
"Our crews are always so hard working, especially in the recent difficult circumstances faced by the service due to staff shortages." Explains Cllr Jackie Charlton, Cabinet Member for a Greener Powys. "Often working long hours to try and ensure rounds are completed, and bins are emptied.
"With collections scheduled throughout the festive period, we are encouraging households to make use of the service and reduce, reuse, and recycle as much of their household waste as possible.
"We all generate more waste than normal over Christmas and New Year, but most of it can be recycled - tin foil, food, glass jars and bottles, real Christmas trees, plain Christmas cards and wrapping paper, batteries, plastic pots, and bottles."
