James Evans MS has warned that the plans to close Brecon’s HSBC branch will be a “real blow” to the town’s high street.

HSBC has announced the closure of 114 branches across the United Kingdom, including one in Brecon.

The closures will start from April next year, with the Brecon bank closure scheduled for May 9.

James Evans MS said: “This is disappointing news and a real blow to the high street.

“I am also disappointed that this has come out in the media before account holders have been informed.

“It’s unacceptable that account holders weren’t the first to know, especially those who use HSBC for business accounts.”

Mr Evans’ comments have followed similar frustrations regarding the banks’ closure from fellow politicians, Fay Jones MP and Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate, David Chadwick.
