Pontfaen YFC is celebrating after scooping a Europe-wide award over the weekend.

The Club was named 'Inspirational Club of the Year' at the Rural Youth Europe European Rally in Austria.

Meg Powell of Erwood YFC, who were representing Wales at the rally, accepted the award on behalf of Pontfaen YFC.

Meg said: “It was an honour to collect the award on behalf of Pontfaen and promote Brecknock on the European stage. You should be very proud of yourselves.”

The judges explained how they were impressed by the Club's community-centred approach and their organising of fundraising events. 

The Club was praised for its illuminated tractor run, which this year raised more than £5,000 for charity. It was also praised for featuring on national news to highlight the importance of young people in rural communities. 

The Club has had an incredibly packed programme of activities that has made a profound impact on young people and the local community.

County President Gethin Havard said: “Huge congratulations Pontfaen - a just reward for all your hard work.”

The club will be raising money for Prostate Cancer and the Velindre Cancer Centre Wales Arctic Blast Expedition 2024, which club President Nic Williams will be taking part in March. She will be covering 100km across the Arctic Circle in just seven days.

To add to to this success, past member Steffan Evans was named as runner-up for the award of Rural Youth Europe Inspirational Person of 2023. Steffan attended the 2022 Rural Youth Europe Autumn Seminar and following this, organised his own pride event in his local town and is a brilliant advocate for the LGBTQ+ community in rural areas.
