Waste and recycling days will change over the Christmas and New Year period, the council has confirmed.
Powys crews will be spending the Christmas and New Year bank holidays with friends and family, meaning there will be a change to the normal collection days.
There will be no collections on Christmas Day or Boxing day. Planned collections will be two days later than normal from Wednesday, December 26. If your normal collection day is on Thursday, December 28 or Friday, December 29, and you are due to have your wheeled bin (or purple sacks) emptied, the council aims to do this on Saturday, December 30 and Sunday, December 31 respectively. Your recycling will not be collected until the following week, when they will be accept double/extra.
There will also be no collections on New Year's Day. If your normal collection day is on Monday, January 1, and you are due to have your wheeled bin (or purple sacks) emptied, the council aims to do this on Tuesday, January 2. Your recycling will not be collected until the following week, when they will accept double/extra. All other collections this week will remain unchanged.
When putting out extra items on the double collection days, please ensure that additional items, which will not fit into your recycling containers, are sorted in the normal way (cans, plastics and cartons / paper and cardboard / glass), and contained in plastic/paper bags left next to your recycling boxes.
The council will endeavour to complete all collections as planned, but if you have not received a collection by 5pm, please check online for an update here.
On Thursday, December 28 and Friday, December 29 they will be aiming to collect double the amount of recycling. If they are unable to complete the rounds as planned, please leave your boxes out and they will aim to collect over the weekend.
All Household Waste Recycling Centres will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year's Day.
Centres will be open as normal at other times, so please check online for full details of the normal opening times. Brecon Household Waste Recycling Centre is currently closed for refurbishment and the alternative arrangements for green waste will not be available on the bank holidays.
Cllr Jackie Charlton, Cabinet Member for a Greener Powys said: “With collections scheduled throughout the festive period, we are encouraging households to make use of the service and reduce, reuse, and recycle as much of their household waste as possible.
"We all generate more waste than normal over Christmas and New Year, but most of it can be recycled - tin foil, food, glass jars and bottles, real Christmas trees, plain Christmas cards and wrapping paper, batteries, plastic pots, and bottles - we can all do our bit to make sure as much as possible is recycled."
Please check the Powys County Council website and keep an eye on their social media pages for any service changes needed because of extreme winter weather or any other unforeseen circumstances.
