Powys County Council has warned of scam text messages circulating regarding winter fuel payments.

A spokesperson for the council said: “We’ve been made aware that text messages about a winter fuel payment are circulating.
“The text message, from the number 07479 500214, instructs you to click on a link and pay a £1 deposit to release the funds.
“This is a scam – do not click on the link in these messages.”
If you receive a suspicious text message you can forward it for free to the National Cyber Security Centre on 7726.
