Powys County Council’s Ukrainian Resettlement Team has won a national award for its work supporting Ukrainian families to settle in the county.

The team was named joint winner of the Equalities, Inclusion, and Cohesion Award at the 2024 Safer Communities Awards, hosted by BBC broadcaster John-Paul Davies at Wrexham Football Club on November 28.

Since 2022, the team has welcomed 167 Ukrainian familiy groups, helping 398 individuals, with 267 people now calling Powys home.

Cllr Richard Church said: “I’m incredibly proud that their work has been recognised by this prestigious award.

“They have played an important role in helping to ensure our Ukrainian guest receive the support they need to integrate into our communities and make this county their homes.”
