Ten exciting new projects across the Brecon Beacons National Park have been awarded funding grants.
The projects, which includes a feasability study into uses for a 19th-century former primary school building, have been awarded the grants thanks to the Sustainable Development Fund.
The Fund, which is managed by Brecon Beacons National Park Authority, supports projects that help improve quality of life – protecting and enhancing the local environment, supporting communities and helping people to live healthy and fulfilled lives.
The Panel met on the January 26 to make their decision on what projects would receive the funding.
The successful projects are:
Brecon Story: £5,000 to support a volunteer mentor for this innovative project, working with and training community volunteers to record video and podcast stories about Brecon’s heritage and culture – creating a bi-lingual oral history of the town.
Cwmdu Village Hall: £10,000 contribution to a much-needed kitchen extension and energy efficiency measures in this well-used community facility.
Talgarth Old Primary School – Feasibility Study: £13,000 towards community consultation and exploration of potential community uses for this 19th-century building.
Pobl Bakery, Talgarth: £1,995 to help purchase essential start-up equipment for this new business in community run Talgarth Mill.
Severn Wye Energy Agency: £3,575 to carry out energy efficiency audits on community buildings, recommending measures that will help reduce bills and reliance on fossil fuels.
St. Catwg’s Church, Llangattock: £1,013 contribution to the installation of LED lighting.
Bull’s Head Hotel, Brecon: £5,000 for essential repairs to the windows and roof of this Grade 2 listed building and much-loved former pub in The Struet conservation area.
Llanthony History Walks: £7,550 for Llanthony Valley & District History Group, towards the development and publication of three new leaflets guiding visitors and residents on walks in the Llanthony, Olchon and Grwyne Fawr valleys.
Crooked Window, Brecon: £5,000 for essential external repairs to this unique Grade 2 building in The Struet – it has both Georgian and Victorian former shop windows.
Brecknock History Society: £852 towards the publication of ‘Sacred Places – a book developed by 11 local history groups, exploring the rich history of places of worship in the landscape of Breconshire’, focussing on and promoting the lesser known ‘sacred places’ including roadside crosses and wells.
