A reading retreat is coming to Hay-On-Wye in September, organised by local glamping business By the Wye.
The retreat, from Wednesday 4th - Friday 6th September 2024, will offer people the chance to experience a brand new style of reading retreat in a world-famous book town.
Edith runs By the Wye Glamping, known for its treetop accommodation, safari tents and luxury glamping experience. Those booking the retreat can expect accommodation with roaring campfires, beautiful beds, sumptuous sofas, running water, flushing toilets, eco-friendly toiletries and fully equipped kitchens. Speaking about the retreat, Edith said: “Reading retreats at By the Wye are a little bit different. Think grown-up summer camp meets book club, with fun events, published authors, workshops, bookshop tours, and most importantly, time for attacking the to-be-read pile and shopping for even more books in Hay's 20+ independent bookshops.”
Those who book the retreat can expect all meals, snacks & refreshments (incl alcohol) to be provided. Activities will include a bookshop breakfast at North Books, a journal workshop, and a walking tour of Hay’s bookshops. There will be a book-themed movie night held in a bookshop and tapas and cocktails.
But there will also be plenty of time for readers to relax and unwind, catching up on ever-growing to-be-read book piles, and making time for themselves, alongside the river Wye.
Edith’s plan for the retreat will see her support local businesses in the area, including Hay’s queer bookshop Gay-On-Wye, and the castle.
It’s the first retreat offered by By the Wye, but there could be scope for new retreats in the future.
Those interested in booking the retreat are encouraged to contact Edith directly, by emailing [email protected]. Based on two people sharing a safari tent, the cost is £495.
