Team members from Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team spent over five hours out in Bannau Brycheiniog on Saturday evening with two callouts to attend to.
The team were contacted by Gwent Police at 5.20pm after they received a call requesting help from two walkers in the central area of Bannau Brycheiniog.
The walkers had unintentionally strayed off their route and become lost on the mountain between the Torpantau and Neuadd areas.
After a joint effort, the two walkers were evacuated safely off the mountain. A spokesperson for Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team said: “Using the location service of their phone we obtained a good indication of their position.
“Our initial hill party left the Neuadd road on foot heading towards the sound of their whistles - they were very well equipped thankfully - while our airborne friends from Maritime and Coastguard Agency R187 St Athan joined us to help.
“Working together through radio updates and messages our hill party and R187 located the two people and, thankfully uninjured although cold, they were evacuated safely off the mountain.”
While this incident was ending another was starting with a request from Dyfed-Powys Police to help investigate reports of cries for help that had been heard by walkers in the area of the Neuadd Valley.
The team quickly asked R187 to assist with this as well, while the hill teams from the first incident were re-deployed on foot into the valley.
After a thorough search by land and air, with nothing found or any further reports of calls, they stood the search down, treating it as a false alarm with good intent.
A spokesperson said: “We’re grateful to all the members of the public who were out enjoying their walks and took the time to stop and offer help or information. By 10.30pm we were back at base and then journeying home.”
