Stranded dogs, Dougal and Nellie, were reunited with their owners on Friday, January 24.
Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team was contacted by South Wales Police on Friday morning to assist with a report of two missing dogs.
They were reported to be stranded on Mynydd Blaenrhondda high above the village of Blaencwm.
The pair of dogs had been missing since Wednesday, January 22, after unexplainably and unexpectedly hurtling up the mountain from their humans in the valley below while ball playing.
After a lengthy search by their owners, the dogs could be heard barking on Friday morning. However, the barks were pinpointed close to a precarious cliff edge and a substantial drop, requiring the assistance of Central Beacons Rescue Team.
A spokesperson for Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team spoke about the rescue. They said: “After arriving through the drivable forestry tracks, two team members were dispatched on foot to where we thought both dogs were and in short space of time visual contact was made.
“At the outset we thought we might be lowering on ropes to them but thankfully that didn’t become necessary.
“Initial coaxing and calling the dogs gained limited success, but the addition of another two team members did the trick. Both dogs’ confidence was gained, lowering anywhere on ropes wasn’t required and they were able to be walked happily to our vehicles.”
The team reunited Dougal and Nellie with their owners and headed back to base.
