The Royal Oak pub in Pencelli has won runner-up for best rural pub in Wales at the Countryside Alliance awards, held at the Senedd in Cardiff Bay last night.
The Countryside Alliance Awards champion rural businesses, people and communities that contribute to the rural economy.
Nicknamed “the rural Oscars”, the Awards celebrate the very best of the best across five categories - best village shop and post office, best pub, local food and drink, rural enterprise and best butcher.
The Royal Oak was represented by Leon and Cath Griffiths, and people from rural communities up and down Wales were in attendance along with Senedd Members and renowned farmer, Gareth Wyn Jones.
MS for Brecon and Radnorshire James Evans said: “I am delighted for The Royal Oak in Pencelli. There was a lot of stiff competition and securing the runner-up position is richly deserved.
“It was brilliant to see Leon and Cath accept the award in Cardiff, and I know Andrew & Fran will be chuffed too.
“The Royal Oak is a firm favourite of mine, and I call on everyone to pay them a visit!”
It has been a successful year for The Royal Oak, after it was also named runner-up in the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) Welsh Pub of the Year Awards 2022.
