Past and present members of Sennybridge YFC gathered together to celebrate the Club's 80th Year at an evening dinner recently.
The Maescar Hall was filled to capacity and all enjoyed a roast dinner catered for by Golden Valley Catering, Neil DIllon.
Club Chairman, Mr Dafydd Havard, welcomed everyone and then handed over the proceedings to the host for the evening's entertainment, Elin Havard.
A panel had been invited to the stage to recount their memories of their years in YFC. Mr Gethin Havard, Brecknock County President, started by reminding everyone that the YFC started off as a Calf rearing club in Crai. David Lewis Cwmpadest and others in 1933 went by train to Reading to buy some heifer calves and brought them home by rail.
They then drew lots for the calves and would rear them for the next 12 months. This calf club them developed into the Young Farmers Club.
The rest of the panel - Gary Price, Gail Jones, Del Prosser, David Price, Libby Davies and John Phillips - told the audience about the funnier moments of their time in YFC, how so many of them had met their spouses through YFC and the friendships that still remained, and what YFC has meant to them. Many stories came from group trips abroad, the Young Farmers AGM at either Blackpool or Torquay over the years ,and also the Drama Festival.
The Club awards were then made and presented by Glyn and Sian Price, the Club Presidents.
The award winners were Abigail Jones (Cefntwrch cup girl under 21), Ellis Morgan (Cefntwrch boy Under 21), Elin Havard (Colin Harris Stockman cup), Libby Davies (Passmore cup under 26), Richie Davies and Anghard Jones (John Heoldwr Cup), and Eifion Price (members member of the year cup).
Cerys Jones then gave the vote of thanks and the evening continued with a disco by Tim Belcher.
