Sennybridge YFC had a fantastic showing at the County Speaking Day recently, with members sweeping the board and securing multiple first-place finishes.

The Junior Brainstrust English team, consisting of Abigail, Eleri, Ellis, and Freddie, took on three thought-provoking topics chosen the chair of the team. The topic discussed were Jeremy Clarkson, artificial intelligence, and agriculture in education. Their insightful discussions earned them top honours in the competition.

The Under-16 Public Speaking team, made up of Abigail, Kaitlyn, and Evie, also shone in both English and Welsh categories. In the English competition, Evie spoke passionately about the importance of the Welsh language, while Abigail highlighted the significance of biodiversity in the Welsh competition. Their success in both languages was a testament to their hard work and dedication.

Sennybridge's Welsh Brainstrust Under-28 team, featuring Elin, Ffion, Hannah, and Lowri, followed suit with another impressive first-place win. Their well-articulated arguments on various topics proved their debating prowess and earned them top honours.

In the After Dinner Speaking competition, Libby, Elin, and Ffion delivered memorable performances. Elin and Fion chaired and responded to the toast "At One With Nature" at the Powys Naturists society dinner, and Libby was guest speaker at the Real Ale Society with the toast of "Bottoms Up".

Many of the talented speakers from Sennybridge YFC will now go on to represent the county at the All Wales Speaking Day, continuing their success on the national stage.

One of the judges for the day, Sam Kurtz, who is MS for Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire, is a prime example of how the skills learned through YFC can benefit careers and progression.

This event proved that Young Farmers isn’t just about farming—it’s about gaining lifelong skills that can open doors to future opportunities in both your personal and professional life.
