Over recent months, Cyfle Cymru has been collecting on a national level for this year’s Christmas shoebox appeal, in aid of Calan DVS and the Montgomery Family Crisis Centre - donation points in the local area have included y Gaer, the Guildhall and the police station.
On Tuesday, December 12, Mayor of Brecon, Cllr Michaela Davies, alongside volunteers from Cyfle Cymru, officers Simon Beaton & Lee Garrett of Dyfed-Powys Police and members of staff from Calan DVS, packed and gift wrapped more than 40 shoeboxes and gift bags over a period of six hours for the local women’s refuge.
This mammoth undertaking took place at the Foundry in Brecon, a venue well known for its community focus.

Cllr Michaela Davies said: “At this time of year, it is especially inportant to think of those who may be struggling in our community and to try and make the festive period a little more magical for children and the burden a little lighter for parents so it has been truly wonderful to work in partnership with these organisations to provide some much needed gifts and treats to women and children who have been through so much hardship.
“On behalf of all involved, thank you to everyone that has donated to this scheme, your generosity will really make a difference to these families for Christmas. Diolch yn fawr.”
