Two sisters from the Rhayader area are set to feature on a Channel 4 programme this Wednesday.

The two sisters, Elizabeth and Sarah, will be on the popular BAFTA nominated Channel 4 series, The Dog House.

Described as one of the most heart-warming programmes on TV, Wednesday’s episode is a Christmas special and shows families looking to adopt rescue dogs.

In the episode Elizabeth, sister Sarah and her Afghan Hound Florence meet Lady the Cocker Spaniel stray who has to overcome her shyness.

The Dog House, working with Woodgreen Pets Charity, wants to highlight just how extraordinary the relationship between humans and canines can be and the life changing affects it can have to both sides.

By meeting the kind-hearted people looking to rehome a dog and hearing their stories on what they hope a dog can bring to them, they want to show that it’s not always just the dog that is getting rescued.

A spokesperson from programme makers, Five Mile Films, spoke about what else is to come in the episode. They said: “More matchmaking takes place at Woodgreen Pets Charity where the Griffiths family hope Gigi the Labrador cross will help dad Dave get into the festive spirit.

“Mona the Lurcher only has one thing on her list this year, a new friend. She’s introduced to Georgia the Saluki cross, but it takes them a while to work out if they think each other are naughty or nice.”

Rescue centres are currently facing the biggest rehoming crisis in recent memory, with adoption centres full to bursting with unwanted animals.

The RSPCA have said that they are sadly seeing the impact of the rise in cost-of-living on our much loved four-legged friends.

It's a pretty gloomy picture, but alongside, 92% of dog owners agree that owning a dog improves their life, 86% say it makes them physically healthier, and 88% say it makes them mentally healthier (PDSA report, 2024).

The episode featuring Elizabeth and Sarah from Rhayader airs on Wednesday, December 18, at 8pm.
