Six Nations fever has returned, which means two of Brecon’s most renowned fundraisers have returned to the streets to sell raffle tickets for charity.

Husband and wife team Lorna and Brian ‘Butch’ Keylock have been raffling rugby jerseys ahead of every Wales game in the Six Nations Championship for over 20 years to support Cancer Research Wales.

Selling tickets from their iconin TARDIS kiosk, the dedicated couple raise thousands of pounds every year and were back outside Brecon’s Guildhall once again yesterday to kick off this year’s charity drive.

Up for grabs ahead of this afternoon’s opener between Wales and Ireland in Cardiff is a specially printed Irish jersey.

Lorna is assistant treasurer of the Brecon and Sennybridge committee for Cancer Research Wales. The committee is well known for its impressive fundraising efforts, having made national headlines for raising more than £185,000 for the charity between 2008 and 2018.

Lorna and Butch will be back in Brecon this morning (Saturday) to sell tickets and can be found in town every Friday and Saturday of match day weekends.

It’s only £1 a go with all funds going to Cancer Research Wales.

Yesterday’s selling also saw the presentation of a cheque made out to Cancer Research Wales.

Some 40 years ago another sport was helping swell the charity’s funds - Brecon's clay pigeon shooting club. Although the club has since closed, its treasurer Ian Field is a staunch supporter of the charity and presented Lorna with a cheque for £2,000.

The money was raised through competitions, raffles, auctions and very popular Sunday lunches held over many years.

Lorna said: “Thank you to all the people involved over and the generous amount donated.

“It’s great to be back out here selling tickets and raising more money for Cancer Research Wales - now come and Wales, get in it and win it!”

Cancer Research Wales is the only charity dedicated wholly to funding cancer research in Wales, for Wales.

For more than 50 years, the charity has promoted their vision of Wales united against cancer through world-class research.
