On Saturday, January 25, Benjamin Brookman of the 160th Brigade, based in Brecon, completed the gruelling Arc of Attrition by UTMB, a renowned 100-mile ultra-race along the stunning National Trust South West Coast Path.
The event, held from January 24 to January 26, took competitors from Coverack to Porthtowan, navigating Cornwall's rugged coastal terrain.
Facing harsh winter conditions and a strict 36-hour time limit, Brookman demonstrated remarkable resilience, finishing in 78th place out of 516 runners and securing third place in his age category. Despite the challenges, 253 participants completed the race, while 263 did not finish.
Brookman's achievement not only showcases his owen determination but also raises awareness for the charity he supported - the Army Benevolent Fund. The Army Benevolent Fund is the national charity of the British Army, providing a lifetime of support to soldiers, veterans and their immediate families.
With this extraordinary result, Brookman will now take part in one of the eight races at the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc, which is now the 100-mile final of the UTMB World Series.
Based around the highest mountain in the Alps, Mont Blanc, the 100-mile trail race will see competitors run, walk and scramble across France, Switzerland and Italy.
The race starts and finishes in the small French commune of Chamonix at the base of Mont Blanc.
Competitors must complete the race within 46 hours and 30 minutes. Those who finish will experience elevation gain of more than 9,900 metres.
The race begins on Friday, August 29 at 6pm local time.
