A bit of Broadway was brought to Theatr Brycheiniog last Saturday for a one-night-only musical extravaganza to razzle dazzle the sell-out theatre.

Broadway to Brecon was a spectacular and memorable night of song and dance from some of the favourite musicals that have taken to the stage on Broadway and on the West End.

The event supported and raised money for Brecon’s own amateur dramatic society The Westenders and the South Wales-based Loud Applause Rising Stars (LARS). They both help to nurture and encourage local talented singers and performers, providing a platform for them to gain so many valuable skills, confidence and opportunity whilst at the same time having fun on stage to entertain.

The show was jam-packed full of performances including the West End Star Samuel Wyn-Morris who performed songs from Chess, Love Never Dies and Les Misérables.

The Westenders produced a medley of songs from Annie and Bugsy Malone with also a rendition of ‘Spell’ Block Tango.

Edward Carr, 8, charmed the audience with his performance of Electricity from Billy Elliot.

There were outstanding performances from the amazing LARS soloists, Liam Edwards, Penelope George, Lefi Jô Hughes, Rhys Hunter, Heather Jones, James Oakley and Lauren Williams, with a variety of musical numbers by Melanie Barker, Poise.Dance, Helen Jones, Rachel Noble, Harvey Cloke, Nansi Jones and Cantorion Pontsenni, creating a night to remember.

The whole cast took to the stage for the finale song with a rendition of One Day More from Les Misérables, which resulted in the whole theatre up on their feet with a rapturous applause.

Marc Williams, Director, said: “It was an unforgettable night of musical entertainment. Everyone has worked incredibly hard to make the night a success with special thanks to Becky Drysdale. The standing ovation at the end speaks volumes recognising the wealth of talent from everyone who performed, and it is fantastic to encourage and provide that opportunity for young people.

“I would like to thank everyone for making my vision a reality from all the performers, the amazing band and everyone behind the scenes who have worked tirelessly, and the sponsors and grant providers that helped to create an awesome and memorable night for all.”
