THE unanimous opinion of the many visitors who attended the 37th Steam and Vintage Rally was that it had been a great day out. Once again it was organised by the members of the Three Cocks Vintage Society. The weather was perfect and the lovely Wye Valley views were enjoyed by everyone – especially those who took a trip up in the helicopter.
The chairman in his opening remarks paid tribute to the late vice president John Lloyd and to Brian Kite who passed away quite recently.
He thanked the members who had set up the show, working hard all the previous week, and introduced the president, Cllr James Gibson-Watt, who praised the society and wished everyone an enjoyable day.
The main parade commenced with the steam traction engines followed by all the moveable vintage exhibits throughout the afternoon. There were two displays by Black Mountains Falconry and a stunning display by Rich Goodwin who performed high-energy manoeuvres in his PittsS2S Muscle Biplane. The crowd were enthralled by his daredevil stunts!
The Stilt Walkers were an unusual feature and were followed around by the children, who also enjoyed chasing bubbles produced by the Bubbleologist and riding on the fairground. The trade stands and the car book were busy and visitors were fascinated by the other displays of all descriptions whilst listening to the music provided by the old fashioned fair organs.
The highlight of the day for the children is their Tug-of-War when they attempt to pull a Steam Engine. They always lose but they are rewarded with sweets!
The 38th Rally will be held on August 12 2018.
