Talgarth Festival of the Black Mountains has long been a key summer event, celebrating the rich culture, arts, and heritage of the Black Mountains region.

This year, the Festival incorporates the welcome addition of a brand-new Gardening Show that aims to tempt both horticulture enthusiasts and casual visitors and locals alike.

Lady Kathryn Silk, High Sheriff of Powys, will be on hand as will Lady Lily the Pink, also known as Berni Benton, a recent Parliamentary Candidate for the Official Monster Raving Looney Party. Both are familiar and popular faces in Talgarth.

The Talgarth Festival Gardening Show aims to highlight the amazing products of the area. Categories this year will include: a vast range of flower categories; diverse vegetables; children’s categories, and what promises to be a favourite -  homemade goods!  The Show will take place in Talgarth Market on Saturday, August 24, and programmes are available on the Festival website: https://www.talgarthfestival.co.uk/ and at the Talgarth Visitor Centre in Talgarth Square.

Lady Lily and Lady Kathryn, our High Sheriff, will have a chance to explore the wider attractions of the Festival, which takes place on Saturday 24, and Sunday 25 August.

There's live music from midday to 8pm in the Great Barns, along with local beers, ciders, cocktails, coffee and food on offer.

The remaining Festival programme runs from 10am to 4pm and will comprise:  local food, drink, stalls, games, and of course, the famous duck race at 3pm on Sunday!

Hundreds of ducks are released into the serene River Ennig, each sponsored by enthusiastic participants hoping for their duck to glide to victory.

Families and friends line the riverbanks, cheering and enjoying the good natured  competition. The race culminates in excitement as the leading ducks approach the finish line, with prizes awarded to the sponsors of the fastest ducks.

This fun-filled event encapsulates the community spirit and lighthearted charm that define the Talgarth Festival, making it a favourite tradition among attendees of all ages.

Speaking in advance of the Festival, Lady Lily the Pink said: “I'm delighted to be returning to Talgarth Festival, as it was such fun last time. I'm really looking forward to it.”
