Talgarth resident Christine Eynon, 83, who was diagnosed in February with Leukaemia decided to brave the shave on Tuesday, April 23 at Talgarth Community Hall.
Christine is on her second chemotherapy treatment and due to the treatment causing her hair to fall out, she decided to cut it off in order to raise money for Talgarth’s Community Hall.
Emma-JaneWalker from La Diva Hair Studio in Talgarth came along to help with the haircut.
After braving the shave, Christine addressed the large group and said: “Thank you all for being here. I want you all to know I’m on my second chemotherapy. The first (treatment) really spaced me out, but the second one I’m on, I’m feeling really good. I’m now able to walk my dogs, I’m able to socialize. If this is how it’s going to be for the rest of my life, then it’s going to be pretty good.”
Christine managed to raise £240.65 in total, with all money raised going towards the Community Hall.
Christine told The Brecon & Radnor Express: “I only moved to Talgarth eighteen months ago. The people have been brilliant to me, especially since I’ve been diagnosed with Leukaemia. All the money raised is going to the Community Hall to help keep it open.
“My first chemotherapy wiped me out completely, but I’m on the second one and it’s really good except it made holes in my hair so I thought I’ll cut it off and do it to raise money for the hall.
“I’m glad that today’s over,” Christine said while laughing, “It’s been very good though. I did wonder at one point if I’m doing the right thing, but I think I did. It’s been great to integrate and settle into the community.
“I’m able to walk my four Labradors now and I’ve got a doctor on the end of the phone who is happy to help whenever, which is really good. From the start, I went for blood tests on the Monday and was on chemotherapy on the sixth day. But I feel good on this treatment so hopefully this is it for life now.”
