Monmouthshire Building Society in Brecon has been supporting grassroots groups and their community through the Branch Sponsorship Fund, and have topped off these efforts recently by donating kit to a local girls football team
Talgarth Town Juniors FC girls are a 25-strong squad of girls aged 5-10 years who meet every Saturday for their training sessions. There are limited opportunities for girls in Brecon to play in team sports and Talgarth Town have provided a much-needed outlet for such activity.
Since the team was formed, coaches and parents have noticed the girls have grown in confidence, some wouldn’t even talk at their first few sessions and now they are joining in all activities and supporting others.
Football helps the girls to learn important life skills such as teamwork, leadership and confidence.
Branch Manager, Zoe Mathias said: “It was lovely to see the girls enjoying their training session.
“During conversations they told me they ‘felt really proud to put the tops on; and that they ‘felt like a proper football team’.”
The squad were going to attend their first tournament on Sunday, March 20 and the the building society team wished the girls every success for the future.
