The Mid Wales Autumn Fayre and Truck Fest will feature as part of a new BBC Wales series following the day-to-day operations of one of the UK's leading haulage firms.
Ride upfront with the kings and queens of the road in the new series of Truckers: Life on The Road.
One of the company’s longest-serving members Jason Bennett (aka Block) is on a special mission. He’s meeting best mate and ex-trucker Duncan at the Dafen depot. Together, they will be getting Duncan’s collection of vintage trucks in tip-top condition, ready to showcase at one of the highlights of the trucking calendar – the Builth Wells Truck Fest at the Mid Wales Autumn Fayre.
Keeping the fleet of over 400 trucks on the road is the job of 14 mechanics after the company recently made the decision to set up its own in-house repair centre. Murph has been a mechanic for over 40 years and loves how the job keeps him on his toes with no two days the same. He must deal with a report of a loose valve on one of the trucks – but with a vehicle that has up to twenty valves to check, it might take some time to find.
In Bridgend, veteran driver Dai is clocking in for his night shift. Trucking is in his blood. His father was a trucker and when he retired, Dai took over his job with the company. His brother followed suit, and his son Dean, who was in the Army, also wanted to get his HGV licence, driving alongside his dad when home. Dai opens up about his son Dean’s passing in 2009 and how his wish was for his coffin to go on the back of a truck rather than in a hearse, which the company duly obliged.
Truckers: Life on The Road will air on BBC One Wales on Friday, 14 April at 7.30pm.
