Work to turn a redundant call centre in Brecon into offices for Powys County Council and others, as part of a new multi-agency hub, has been completed.

Bbi’s (Beacons Business Interiors) renovation for the council has included:

• Refurbishment of the second floor to create office space for council staff, with zero-carbon flooring and LED lighting, with intelligent controls.

• A reorganisation of the first floor to allow for multi-occupancy by different agencies.

• Installation of a passenger lift.

The work is part of a major project, backed by £3.5 million in UK Government funding, which has been used to buy the building on Brecon Enterprise Park and cover its refurbishment.

The building will now be known as Tŷ Brycheiniog,

Powys County Council staff are likely to move from Neuadd Brycheiniog to Tŷ Brycheiniog’s second floor in early 2025. Other floors will be used by partners from the public, private and voluntary sectors.

Councillor Jake Berriman, Cabinet Member for a Connected Powys, said: “This development has created a more practical, cost-effective building for the council to use in this part of the county - making our delivery of services more sustainable for future generations. It also helps us cut our carbon footprint.”

Cllr David Selby, the council’s Cabinet Member for a More Prosperous Powys added: “The move to this new, more flexible working environment will help us maintain positive relationships with our partners and free up a much-needed development site in Brecon, at Neuadd Brycheiniog on Cambrian Way.

“I’ve also been informed that Bbi have been a pleasure to work with: well organised, good quality of workmanship and professional throughout.”

The project created a job opportunity for an apprentice and saw Tŷ Brycheiniog used for site visits by carpentry students from NPTC Group’s Brecon Beacons College.

The money for Tŷ Brycheiniog was secured from the UK Government by Powys County Council’s Economy and Climate Service and its Strategic Property Team managed the build.
