ONE of the last village agricultural shows of 2017 took place at Nantmel where the organisers were celebrating their 40th anniversary.
The event was staged at Maes-y-Gelli Farm by kind permission of Bryn and Sophia Pugh who were this year’s show presidents. The show was opened by Dai Jones of Llanilar of S4C television fame.
Prize winners during the day were presented with special 40th anniversary slate plaques. Among those present at the opening was Toni Godolphin who as a native of Nantmel was born on the day of the first show in the village.
During the afternoon there was entertainment provided by the Valley View Falconry Static Display, the Wye Valley Axe Racing team and Panic Circus. Local soloist Angharad Gough provided entertainment later in the day. There were horse and pony classes, a dog show, and a sheep section. This was in addition to competitions in the marquee for needlework, craft, garden produce and a floral section. There were also races for the children and a number of side stalls around the show.
