A warning has been issued by Dyfed Powys Police for phone call scams.

Reports of automated telephone scams have come from the Llandrindod Wells, Rhayader and Builth Wells areas with several people having received calls from a well-spoken male voice, claiming to work for HMRC.

The recorded message goes on to mention supposed outstanding payments and warns of a possible warrant for arrest, before telling the call handler to press one to speak to an operator.

The police force has issued some tips to help you and to share with vulnerable family and friends:

“Remember it is OK not to speak with cold callers – if you feel something is wrong just put the phone down

*Telephone numbers and text messages can easily be spoofed. You should never trust the number you see on your telephone’s display

*Do not enter into conversation with someone you do not know, provide them with any personal details or send them any money

*If you are concerned please contact police on 101, or Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040

*If you are deaf, hard of hearing or speech impaired you can also text the force’s non-emergency number on 07811 311 908
