MORE than £43,000 has been raised in just three days to support a holidaymaker from Ystradgynlais who nearly died after falling from a balcony in Ibiza.

Jack Holland and his loved-ones are ’amazed’ by the kindness and generosity of well-wishers who are desperate to see the 22-year-old back at his home in the town.

What was meant to be a fun holiday turned into a nightmare when the brick layer sustained serious head injuries following a fall in an Ibiza resort. Spanish medics operated over the weekend.

Girlfriend Chloe Arbourne, 21, has flown to Ibiza with her father and Jack's parents while her sister Charlie has organised a crowd funding appeal on the Just Giving website. The appeal initially aimed to raise £25,000 to pay for a specialist air ambulance to fly Jack home. His medical bills are taken care of but an air ambulance flight is not covered by insurance.

Donations soon rolled into the thousands and exceed the £25,000 target within 12 hours and by Wednesday, August 22 topped £43,000.

The family have said of the support shown: "We are amazed. We really can’t believe the kindness and generosity so many people have shown."

Updates on Jack’s condition have also been posted on the Just Giving site.

Fundraising events are starting to be arranged in Ystradgynlais to bring Jack home and fund his rehabilitation. A grand opening event of the new restaurant at The Aubrey Arms already planned will now host a fund raising event for Jack on Bank Holiday Sunday during the Aubrey Festival.

Local businesses, the Celtic Minor Golf Club in Cwmtwrch and managers at The Aubrey, have donated generous prizes.
