The Welsh Open Stone Skimming Championships will take place in Llanwrtyd Wells next week.
Abernant Lake in Llanwrtyd will be the venue for this event, taking place on Saturday, August 3 from 10am.
The entry fee is £5 for adults, £4 for under 16s and £3 for under 11s.
There are many categories of throwing for this unique and fun event, with competitions running from six years of age to adults.
Llanwrtyd in the past was the site of the new world record for stone skimming.
The more accomplished skimmers can throw a stone 90m or more.
The American discipline is termed "stone skipping" and has the object of achieving the maximum number of "bounces", whereas the British and European version "stone skimming" is concerned with the distance achieved. Both have their World Championships. In the United States it has been held for many years on Mackinac Island, Michigan, and here in Europe, since 1983, on the Island of Easdale, Scotland.
