Six community groups based in Norton and Presteigne have received Welsh Water community funding.
Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water are currently investing £8 million to upgrade the wastewater system in Presteigne. As a thank you to the local community for bearing with them during the work, the not for profit company has donated more than £2000 to community groups in the local area.
The funding has enabled six successful community groups in the Norton and Presteigne area to deliver a diverse range of community-based projects. This includes activities such as building community hubs, education, provide first aid training and supporting the local environment.
One successful group is the Norton Community Trust, who were set up in 2019 to transform the village’s former church of St Andrew into a community hub.
John Refausse, a member of Norton Community Trust, said: “As part of our work, it has been necessary to employ specialist legal and architectural support, as well as conducting regular community communications and consultation about how the hub should be designed and operated.
“The money from Welsh Water has been a valued contribution to the costs associated with helping us do this.”
The Community Fund is a chance for communities where Welsh Water is working to boost their fundraising efforts for good causes in their area up to a value of £1,000.
Claire Roberts, Head of Community Engagement at Welsh Water, said: “The Welsh Water Community Fund is pleased to support a diverse range of community projects in Presteigne.
“As a not for profit organisation, customers are at the heart of everything we do, and the funding allows us to give something back to the community that we are investing in.”
