Last year the ladies section of Cradoc Golf Club lost a much loved member of their group, Ceini Woodland.
Ceini was a real character, and golf and Cradoc Ladies was a huge part of her life. Her attitude was “viva la vida” or “live the life”.
Following her death last year the ladies received a legacy from Ceini to “have fun”. True to her wishes, Saturday was Ceini’s Day when nearly all of the ladies turned out in her memory for a game of golf followed by a celebration.
With a shotgun start in teams of three, the ladies played a Texas Scramble on the course which was decorated with balloons everywhere.
The victorious team was Mags Jones, Liz Bush and Linda Williams with a very impressive score. Prizes were also given for the longest drive and nearest to the pin.
The golf was followed by tapas and then all the ladies sat down to a delicious buffet prepared by Perry of The Fairway at Cradoc. The instructions from Lady Captain Andy Black were to dress in bright colours - something Ceini was well known for - and enjoy yourselves. Ceini stipulated in her will that the ladies must have fun and “get the party started” - and the ladies of Cradoc certainly did just that!
There were stories for the newer members about Ceini’s golf and her ability to enjoy the social side of the game. The evening was rounded off with some salsa dancing which the ladies enjoyed.
A bench was purchased in Ceini’s memory and will be placed at the bottom of the 10th hole for players to have a breather before tackling the hard climb up to the 10th fairway.
A spokesperson for Cradoc Ladies said: “A huge thank you must go to our captain Andy Black for all the thought she had put into the occasion and her brilliant organizational skills. She made sure Ceini’s instructions to have fun were carried out.
“It was a fitting tribute to, and a wonderful way to say, a final farewell to Mrs Ceini Woodland.”
